LOCATION: Heathrow Airport

REPORTING TO: Unit Manager

HOURS/WORKING PATTERN: Shift work over 7 days, 6.00am to 1pm, 1pm to 8pm, 7.00am 3.00pm

DURATION: Minimum 12 months

We have a very exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Hospitality Supervisor to join our team at Heathrow Airport.

You do not need to have any supervisory or management experience as full training will be provided as part of the Apprenticeship. This is an ideal opportunity for  someone with Hospitality or Catering experience looking to develop and progress their career. Apprenticeship are for everyone regardless of age!

Over a 12 month period you will be trained to become a fully Qualified Hospitality Team Supervisor.

What you'll be doing:

WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP?

An apprenticeship is a funded programme where an individual learns new skills, knowledge and behaviours in a chosen sector. An apprenticeship will enable you to work and earn a wage whilst developing and gaining new skills as an employee.

Alongside your day to day duties, you will complete the Hospitality Team Supervisor Level 3 Apprenticeship. This is a nationally recognised qualification and the primary objective of the Hospitality Team Supervisor is to provide vital support to the management team and being capable of independently supervising the hospitality team and outlets. You will work in  a fast paced and pressured environment delivering fantastic customer service and motivating your team.You will be supported through this qualification by your Personal Development Coach who will visit you at your place work every 6-10 weeks. You are not expected to complete any of your Apprenticeship work outside of your normal working hours and will be given set time each week to complete your work.

More about the role:

  • Our supervisory roles are stepping into management, where there are real opportunities for people to progress to General Manager positions.
  • We operate out of 20 restaurants at London Heathrow. The busiest unit will transact at 1000 covers for lunch, most units average around 150+ meals. The majority of our units operate branded Costa and Starbucks as part of the restaurant offer.
  • A supervisor’s role is to lead a team, which could be from one person to several, manage HSE compliancy, customer care and attention, counter and food service quality and manage the day to day shop floor operations.
  • Breakfast is also an important meal, these can see as many as 200 transactions.

 

Your main duties will include:

  • Ensuring customers and clients are served in a friendly, professional and efficient manner
  • Comply to all Food Safe and Health and Safety regulations on your shift and working in support of the Manager and wider team
  • Ensure a high standard of counter execution and a continual focus on the customer service journey
  • Deliver amazing promotional displays and encourage team sales and trading up.
  • Communicate with all relevant departments to ensure a smooth operation and service
  • Manage the day to day workflow within the team using company costed rosters
  • Lead by example in all aspects of your work and inspire and motivate your team
  • Share knowledge with the team by working with buzz sessions on your shifts
  • Maintain a high standard of knowledge relating to your area of work and assist customers and clients where required
  • Address all comments in a positive manner and take appropriate follow up action
  • Create an environment with a ‘sense of urgency’
  • Wear the correct uniform and safety shoes as directed, ensuring they are looked after
  • Undertaking a variety of tasks within the catering facility including; serving hot & cold food
  • You will be required to work under your own initiative and also as part of a team
  • Basic food preparation i.e. salads, sandwiches
  • Ensuring all areas are kept clean and tidy to promote a safe working environment at all times

Who you are:

  • Experience in catering is required- these are roles that are stepping into management and therefore is a great opportunity for individuals that have at least two years previous experience in roles such as Catering Assistants, Food Service Assistants, hospitality backgrounds, branded coffee outlets, and pubs with food.
  • Dedicated and committed to being part of a team
  • Desires in helping someone develop within our team.
  • Enthusiastic, reliable, trustworthy and able to follow rules and regulations.
  • Excellent Communication and Organisational skills
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work in a pressurised environment

Mandatory requirements:

  • 5 years  full employment or school history
  • The role is conditional on being able to clear security checks - Airports are secure security environments, to work with us you must be over 16, have 5 years continuous references which can include schools and education. Gaps in the 5 years references, we can support you with gaining the required evidence to support the gap.
  • Able to clear a DBS check-we, will support you through gaining airside passes

Your Apprenticeship is fully funded by Compass UK and Ireland, via the Apprenticeship Levy.

As a company, our Apprenticeship programme is subject to regulation from Ofsted and the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).For that reason, each candidate must meet certain criteria’s in order to be eligible for funding.  This ensures our offer is compliant with all the quality and funding rules. Therefore, you will be required to complete the following:

Eligibility Questionnaire – the questions asked here will determine if we can claim funding for your apprenticeship training with our training provider and the rules for this are set out in the ESFA funding rules 2018/2019.

Initial Assessments – These are positioning tests in English and Maths. Whilst they do not directly affect your eligibility for the apprenticeship they provide us with your current level of learning and help us build an individual learner journey.  This will establish if you are working at the required level in Maths & English that is needed in order for you to complete the learning within your chosen apprenticeship.

European Social Fund – The Skills Funding Agency operates as a co-financing organisation for ESF and assures EU funding is correctly spent. The European Social Fund (ESF) is a structural fund from the European Union. It improves the skills of the workforce and helps people who have difficulties finding work. All our apprenticeships are compliant with ESF funding.
